Companies are not just companies. They are places where people meet, grow, learn, and evolve. However, for this to happen, it is necessary to invest in strategies that favor employees’ interaction with the environment in which they are inserted.
How to do it? Well, there are many methods, but the creation of cells within companies is a great option. With them, it is possible to further integrate members, increasing their engagement with work, business and colleagues.
That’s what Venturus has done! In this post, we’ll talk about the design cell. To help us, we interviewed Vinícius Santos, Creative Lead at Venturus.
We hope you enjoy the content!
What are cells within a company?
Before we delve into the subject, let’s understand what is a cell within a company. Generally speaking, they are groups of people who have similar interests. In companies, this division is related to tasks and roles, that is: those who have similar assignments and are part of the same department can make up a cell.
However, make no mistake: cells and departments are not synonymous. In fact, cells are a group of exchange of interests, carrying out activities and integration, going far beyond the concept we are used to in the traditional way.
A cell also functions as a focus point for organization and allocation, helping to map the profile and professional interests of its members. With this information, the process of allocating professionals is better for both projects and employees’ careers.
How important are these communities for a business?
The implementation of cells in companies is important for several reasons, but the most crucial of them is integration. After all, many have been hired in a company, but felt as if they did not belong in that environment. This feeling is not only common, but very harmful to everyone involved: the company itself, its employee and all of their co-workers.
Creating a sense of belonging and making everyone part of a great team is beneficial for all stakeholders, allowing employees to feel more engaged and productivity and creativity flow much more naturally.
In addition to contributing to the career development of the members, the cell supports the exchange of experiences and mobility within the company itself. That is, employees can be allocated to projects that make sense for their profile, bringing better results, greater satisfaction and permanence in the company.
What are the advantages promoted by this strategy?
What are the benefits of investing in a strategy like this? Some of the benefits, according to Vinícius, are:
- the exchange of knowledge and experience among employees, benefiting their careers and projects;
- strengthening Venturus’ designer community in a variety subjects, which allows the company to reach greater maturity and become a reference in the field;
- retention of good professionals;
- greater sharing of information among professionals and, consequently, much greater flow of creativity, which benefits client projects and the strengthening of the team;
Why was our design cell created?
Now, let’s talk about Venturus. We are a company with many projects, grouped into client accounts. They have their particularities, demands and work styles, which form a unique ecosystem and differ from other nuclei seen within the company itself.
According to Vinícius, the independence of the accounts brings many advantages, but it can also have the opposite effect:
“This independence can also be a disadvantage, as it can make it difficult to exchange knowledge between accounts. Cells and communities are important for this, so that there is a connection between people from all over the company with some common topic.”
This is what motivated the development of this core. The goal is to integrate our designers, giving them greater autonomy and allowing free exchange of ideas, not limited by contact with customers or management.
How did the Design Cell come about? According to Vinícius, the embryo of the cell appeared in 2019, as part of the initiative of designers who already worked at Venturus. At first, this was a challenge, as they needed to reconcile their professional projects with the organization of these meetings and activities.
From this, Venturus brought in a designer with long experience in the sector to organize and lead the cell. He became the bridge between designers and management, allowing the exchange to be more and more efficient and beneficial to all.
How does the design cell work?
The cell holds meetings (which take place on Mondays and Wednesdays, for half an hour) and study groups (on Friday mornings). The meetings are composed of presentations of cases on design or related topics, which can help participants reflect on different subjects. One of the highlights is the chat about everyday things.
But that’s not all. Meetings can also involve technical topics, serving as a source of knowledge, updating and inspiring the members. The meeting are open to all employees, even those who are not in the field of design.
What were the results brought by the cell to Venturus?
At Venturus, the implementation of the design cell was a great success. Some of the benefits it’s brought to the company are:
- greater integration and feeling of belonging to designers;
- freer exchange of ideas professionals in the field;
- maturity in design services;
- allocation based on each designer’s profile;
- optimized talent retention, which also makes the team work much better together;
- recognition of the design department in the company, which makes acting in it a great addition to any resume.
Why is joining companies with this concern interesting for designers?
Being a designer is a dynamic profession, bold and fun. For this reason, it is essential that these professionals also care about seeking work environments that not only respect their identity and their creative freedom, but also provide the means for them to grow continuously.
Another important point is the strength of the team. A united teams work better together, even if they are dealing with distinct projects. Open communication enables valuable exchanges, with continuous learning and appreciation of professionals.
